Somali Prime Minister Nur Hassan Nur Ade said the sudden resignation of two-thirds of his cabinet will not affect the operation of his government and he has no plans to resign. Prime Minister Nur Ade said he suspected the mass resignation of ministers was aimed at weakening implementation of the peace agreement between Somalia's transitional government and the opposition Alliance for the Re-Liberation of Somalia. Eleven cabinet ministers allied with President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed announced their resignation Saturday. Ade said he was rejecting the call by some lawmakers for him to step down as prime minister. "I'm not ready to resign," Nur Ade told CNN Sunday. Nur Ade said the ministers' resignations will not keep his government from operating or completing the peace deal reached in Djibouti in June. The peace plan's implementation will bring a ceasefire and increased security that will allow international humanitarian aid to reach displaced people in Somalia, he said.
