German airline Lufthansa said Wednesday it was cancelling 10 per cent of its scheduled flights in Germany and Europe in the next five days because of rolling strikes by its ground and cabin staff, according to dpa. Speaking on the third day of the strike for higher pay, the airline said it would also adjust inter-continental flights shortly. Six flights to American destinations, India and Dubai, along with their corresponding return flights, were scratched Wednesday because aircraft were not available on time. Lufthansa also cancelled 70 domestic and European flights, as it had done on Tuesday. Lufthansa acknowledged that a shortage of maintenance staff was having an impact. Nine of the airline's fleet of 520 aircraft were out of action on short-haul routes. The airline declined to put a figure on the number of long-haul jets affected.
