An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rattled West Sumatra province on Monday, forcing thousands of people to rush outdoors, ANTARA reported. The epicenter of the quake which struck at 02.10 p.m. was in the sea about 76 km southwest of Pariaman town at a depth of 26 km, spokesperson of the Padang Panjang Meteorology and Geophyiscs Station Fitri said on Monday. The temblor was strongly felt by people living in Padang, Pariaman, Padang Pariaman and Bukittinggi cities. She said the quake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami. Monday's quake forced thousands of people, especially those staying in two- or three-storey buildings to rush outdoors.
