Pakistan claimed on Saturday that its troops had briefly exchanged fire with Indian soldiers on the de facto border with India in the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir. "Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the Line of Control in Batal Sector Rawalakot between 1000 to 1100 hours (04:00 to 05:00 GMT)," a statement from Pakistan Army said. "The fire was immediately responded to by our own troops and the locations were effectively engaged from where the fire was being received. Resultantly the fire stopped," it said further. There were no casualties on the Pakistani side. The nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours have fought two wars in the Kashmir region, over which both lay claim, since they gained their independence from Britain in 1947. They went to the brink of a third conflict in 2002, according to DPA.
