A Saudi Consultant doctor confirmed that breast tumor has become more common among Saudi women, where it tops other types of cancers affecting Saudi women and now increased by19 per cent. Citing the latest statistics, Dr. Hasnah Al-Ghamdi, head of Oncology Department at Jeddah-based King Abdulaziz Hospital, said that Eastern region of Saudi Arabia ranks first in the incidence with 22 per cent, Riyadh second with 17 per cent, followed by Makkah, Tabuk and Qassim regions. She stressed that breastfeeding is an important factor in reducing the incidence of breast cancer in addition to frequent childbearing. She highlighted the importance of early cancer detection so that treatment can be approachable either through self-examination or annual check up in case of the emergence of the disease. There are more than one means of treatment, depending on the severity of case, either radiation and chemical treatment or surgical treatment, she added.
