Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said his country intends to double trade and economic cooperation with Belarus, Itar-Tass reported. Chavez arrived in the Belarusian capital on a working visit on Wednesday. “Our friend – President Lukashenko and I will discuss measures to promote our cooperation,” the Venezuelan president said at Minsk Airport upon his arrival. Chavez said two years ago he had visited Belarus for the first time. “Now I can say both countries reached serious progress in mutually advantageous trade, economic and political interaction,” he said. Lukashenko said that the oil project was being implemented successfully. Belarus and Venezuela are working on projects for assembling tractors, motorcars, and supplying gas to different regions of Venezuela with Belarusian specialists' aid, the Belarusian president stressed. “Belarus is a heroic country. This is the country with the heroic people,” Chavez said, adding that Venezuela intends to strengthen trade, economic, humanitarian and political cooperation with Belarus in the future.
