Barack Obama will accept the Democratic presidential nomination this summer by addressing 75,000 people in an American football stadium in Denver, Colorado, the party announced Monday, according to dpa. Obama's speech at INVESCO Field will be the largest for a Democratic candidate since John Kennedy's 1960 acceptance speech in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, the main venue for the 1932 and 1984 Olympics. "The Democratic Party is nominating a true change candidate this August, and it is only fitting that we make some big changes in how we put on the convention," party chairman Howard Dean said. The convention begins August 25 and lasts four days. The first three days will be held in the much smaller Pepsi Centre, a hockey and basketball facility that seats about 19,000. Obama will deliver his remarks on August 28. The Republicans hold their convention September 1-4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. INESCO Field is home to the National Football League's Denver Broncos.
