The foreign ministers of the Group of Eight (G8) on Friday condemned chaos and violence in Zimbabwe and denied the country's election had any legitimacy as President Robert Mugabe went ahead with a one-man poll, according to DPA. "This kind of sham election cannot possible produce a legal outcome - that is the position of the United States," US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said at the final day of a two-day meeting in Kyoto, Japan. The United States would consult with other members of the UN Security Council and interested parties about what next steps were to be taken in the council, Rice added, hinting at the possibility of UN sanctions against Zimbabwe. "None of us believes that the 'election' today represents the kind of contest bringing credit to any country," British Foreign Secretary David Milibrand told reporters. Zimbabwe's leader is running uncontested for the presidency after the opposition pulled out of the election, creating a crisis for the whole of southern Africa, said the ministers from Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States.
