Twelve people were fatally trampled Friday night during a raid on a nightclub in northern Mexico City, police said. The 6:30 p.m. (7:30 p.m. ET) raid resulted in a stampede for the doors and left two minors and three police officers among the dead, said Joel Ortega, secretary of public security. Police said they were sent to the club after hearing that drugs and alcohol were being sold to minors. The legal age for drinking is 18, CNN reported. Thirty-nine people were arrested, including the owner of the club, who was accused of instigating the stampede by announcing the raid on a microphone and of not having enough emergency exits.
