A senior official from Israel's defence ministry arrived in Cairo on Thursday in a bid to revive talks over an Egyptian-brokered truce with the Palestinian militant group Hamas, according to airport sources, dpa reported. Amos Gilad is expected to hold talks with Egypt's intelligence chief, Omar Soliman, over Cairo's efforts to broker a truce between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip. Hamas demands that Israel lift its blockade of Gaza, which it imposed since the group seized control of the territory and ousted the rival faction Fatah from there a year ago. Gilad is expected to push for the release of the kidnapped Israeli soldier, Gilad Shalit.
