An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit Ambon, Maluku Province, on Monday at 7.55 am local time, ANTARA reported. The earthquake's epicenter was located at 4.31 degrees southern latitude and 129.69 degrees eastern longitude, around 184 km southeast of Ambon, at a depth of 50 km below sea level, Head of the Ambon Geophysics station Benny Sipollo said here on Monday. The temblor of the second level of MMI (modified mercally intensity) was hardly felt by residents of Ambon. "The location is quite far, therefore it's hardly felt by Ambon residents," Sipollo said. Ambon has been hit by five mild earthquakes and 30 aftershocks since Sunday evening (June 1).
