A 53-year-old man who pulled a gun and shot a policeman was killed Sunday, German police said, according to DPA. A second policeman shot and fatally wounded the offender in the clash on a roadside near the Bavarian city of Bayreuth. Armed confrontations with police on patrol are a rarity in Germany and police seldom draw their pistols. The first policeman was seriously wounded by several bullets, but his condition was not critical. A spokesman said the two policemen had routinely asked the man his identity as he was walking or riding a bicycle on a federal highway, close to the on-ramp to an autobahn.
