A mountaineering official says a 76-year-old Nepalese man has become the oldest person to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. Nepal's Tourism Ministry official Ramesh Chetri says Min Bahadur Sherchan reached the 29,035-foot (8,850-meter) summit early Sunday morning with his climbing guides. He is in good health and was safely coming down the icy slopes, the Associated Press reported. Sherchan beat the record set last year by Japanese climber Katsusuke Yanagisawa, who scaled the peak at age 71.
