Yemeni authorities have begun a wide campaign to resist illegal migration into Yemeni lands, Saba reported. A security source said the Immigration and Passport Authority said the campaign will continue until the end of the next week and take place in the provinces of Sana'a, Aden, Taiz, Hodeidah, Shabwah and Hadramout. The source said during the early days of the campaign the authorities arrested 50 Somali and Ethiopian illegal immigrants. Those arrested have been held at the authority offices in Sana'a and a number of its branches in other provinces. They are expected to be deported soon, the source added. The move came as the number of African illegal immigrants began to increase which forms a source of worry to the Yemeni government. Many African illegal immigrants arrive in Yemen almost daily fleeing violence in their homes and sometimes to seek new lives.
