A U.N. agency representative on Monday condemned the killing of a Reuter's cameraman in Gaza on April 16 and urged protection for all journalists. Fadel Shanaa, a Palestinian, was killed following a missile attack on his vehicle even though the word “Press” was displayed on his vehicle to indicate journalists' presence, the U.N. Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) said in a statement. “I trust the Israeli authorities will spare no effort in investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack on Mr. Shanaa's vehicle,” UNESCO director-general Koichiro Matsuura said. “It is important that due regard be paid to the safety of journalists, at all times and under all circumstances.”
