SPA Pakistan has appointed two former journalists as its ambassadors to Washington and London, officials said. Journalist-turned-academician Hussain Haqqani will be Pakistan's ambassador to Washington. The government has forwarded Haqqani's name as its new ambassador to the United States. He will replace Lt-Gen (retd) Mohammad Ali Durrani, who is being appointed as advisor on national security in Pakistan. Wajid Shamsul Hassan has been made Pakistan's high commissioner (ambassador) to Britain. He replaces Dr Maleeha Lodhi. Haqqani, who has been working as director of the Centre for International Relations at Boston University, has been in the United States for six years. He is author of a widely read book on Pakistan and a regular contributor to newspapers. Previously he served as ambassador to Sri Lanka in 1997.
