United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon will not be attending the opening ceremony of the Olympic games in Beijing, China in July this year, according to his spokesperson Thursday. Ban will not attend “due to other scheduled appointments,” his spokeswoman Marie Okabe told the press in answer to a question raised Wednesday on the matter. This decision, Okabe explained, had been made “months ago,” but the UN press was not aware of the decision until Thursday.
