Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa called for an emergency meeting of southern African leaders to be held Saturday to discuss ways of resolving the post-election impasse in Zimbabwe, according to DPA. "The situation in Zimbabwe is extremely serious," Radio Zambia quoted Mwanawasa as saying. The Zambian president called the meeting in his capacity as current chairman of the 14-nation Southern African Development Community. He described the situation in Zimbabwe as critical and a threat to democracy in the region.
