At least one people was reportedly killed and hundreds of houses were destroyed as rainstorm, accompanied by lighting and thunder, swept through Jambi on Sunday, ANTARA reported. Jambi municipal spokesman Jhon Eke Powa said here on Monday that the four-hour windstorm which started at 4 pm until 8 pm on Sunday evening destroyed at least 118 houses, uprooted a number of trees, and cut off electrical power across the city of Jambi. He said the power failure caused a period of power blackout across the city for over eight hours. "A construction worker at a shopping center who was hit by fallen debris was rushed to a nearby hospital but he breathed his last before reaching the hospital," Jhon Eke Powa said, adding that the identity of the fatality was still unclear. He added that Jambi city mayor had ordered the heads of sub-districts to go to the field and collected data about material loss and other possible fatalities.
