Malaysia Airlines says it will acquire up to 55 new Boeing 737-800 jets and will proceed with plans to buy six Airbus A380s as part of its fleet expansion. Chief Executive Idris Jala said in a statement Monday that the flag carrier has placed a firm order for 35 narrow-bodied B737-800 aircraft, with an option for another 20 planes. The 55 planes have a list price of US$4.2 billion (¤2.7 billion), he was quoted as saying by the Associated Press. Idris said the airline also expects to take delivery of all six of its A380 superjumbos in 2011.
