A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rattled Peru's coast near the capital early Saturday, causing alarm and minor damage but no fatalities, AP quoted officials as saying. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake struck under the Pacific Ocean at 7:51 a.m. local time, 10 miles (15 kilometers) west of Peru's coastal capital, Lima, shaking startled residents out of bed. Five houses collapsed in Lima, Civil Defense chief Luis Palomino told reporters. No injuries were reported, but several people were being treated for emotional trauma.
