The euro was lower against the U.S. dollar Monday as most markets in Europe remained closed for the Easter holidays. The 15-nation currency bought US$1.5390 compared to US$$1.5443 in trading Friday when markets were closed for the start of the traditional holiday. The dollar was higher against the Japanese currency, buying 100.03 yen Monday, up from the 99.43 Japanese yen it bought on Friday, but traders said the fact that it crossed 100 yen was likely a temporary move only, according to a report of the Associated Press. The dollar was also lower against the British pound, slipping to US$1.9802 on Monday from the US$1.9831 it purchased Friday. Markets in Europe reopen Tuesday.
