Yemeni Minister of Public Health and Population Abdul Karim Yahya Rasa'a has held talks with Regional Director of UNICEF for Middle East and North Africa Sigrid Kaag on mutual cooperation ties between Yemen and UNICEF in the fields of public health, specially related to child health, SABA reported. During their meeting held in Sana'a, Rasa'a and Kaag discussed a health program assisted by UNICEF, an extended program of immunization, child health and a feeding program, in addition to trends to reach aims of millennium development and possibilities of providing database about health sector in Yemen. The minister stressed over the importance of joint work with UNICEF within priorities and goals of national health included in the 3rd five-year plan. He made it clear that the national health indications clarify and reflect size of challenges Yemen face. The partnership between Yemen and UNICEF resulted to big success, specifically in the fields of eradication of polio and big reduction of measles diseases' cases as well as reduction of children death rate. For her part, Kaag expressed happiness to visit Yemen and to acquaint with child conditions, indicating the necessity of boosting and developing health system in the country and following creative ways to reach to children and women in the rural areas for reducing child mortality under 5 years age.
