A Serbian judge succumbed to injuries sustained in an apparent professional assassination attempt, the country's Supreme Court said Friday, according to dpa. The judge, Dragisa Cvejic, was seriously injured earlier Friday when he triggered a bomb planted on his garage door, reports said. Three other people, including a child, were slightly injured in he blast in Knjazevac, 250 kilometres south east of Belgrade. Cvejic had been a municipal judge. Possible motives for the attempt on his life were not immediately clear, officials said. The investigation was being carried out by Belgrade police. In Serbia, organized criminals are powerful enough to threaten and intimidate judges who refuse bribes. The organization of Serbian judges condemned the attack on Cvejic and protested at the failure to heed its appeals for better protection for judges. The organization called for special policing for the judiciary after a judge was killed in court by a disgruntled party in northern Serbia nine months ago.
