A top United Nations envoy to Somalia on Thursday called on the Security Council to “agree on concrete steps” towards peace building measures by all parties in war-torn Somalia, while emphasizing the need to hold “the warlords, the extremists and the spoilers” responsible for Somali deaths and displacement. Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, UN Special Representative for Somalia, also called for the need for a power sharing agreement among Somalis and “engagement” from the international community. Ould-Abdallah told the press, while he was content with the 15-member council's “renewed interest” in showing “profound concern” for the situation in Somalia, much more needed to be done. “These are encouraging developments but they are not enough. While more people are now talking about Somalis, there is still little action to stop the violence and opportunism,” Ould-Abdallah told the council.
