Poland's President Lech Kaczynski says he supports adopting the EU's new treaty and believes Warsaw will do so, AP reported. Kaczynski and the nationalist opposition are demanding extra guarantees in the treaty's ratification that they say are needed to safeguard Poland's sovereignty in the European Union. Poland's pro-European government says such measures are unnecessary. Dziennik daily quotes Kaczynski on Thursday as saying that he «cannot imagine a situation in which Poland would stand in the way of the EU adopting the treaty.» The Lisbon Treaty sets out rules simplifying the way the European Union is run. It must be approved by all 27 EU members.
