Delta Air Lines said Wednesday it added another $10 to U.S. domestic round-trip fares to offset high jet fuel prices. A spokeswoman for the third-largest U.S. airline said the $10 is an increase to the existing fuel surcharge. The increase followed one last week, when major U.S. carriers, including Delta, increased fuel surcharges by as much as $50 round-trip. The increase reflects the troubles experienced by airlines as jet fuel prices, which rise with the price of crude oil, soar to record levels and the U.S. economy weakens. Crude briefly hit a record high of $111.80 a barrel.
