Pakistan's new lawmakers have elected the country's first-ever female speaker of parliament. The outgoing speaker of the National Assembly announced that Fehmida Mirza easily won Wednesday's ballot. Mirza is a businesswoman and medical doctor who has been elected to parliament three times. Mirza was nominated by the party of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. Her party finished first in parliamentary elections held in February.
