The Gwadar Deep Sea Port in Pakistan s Balochistan province was made operational when the first ship carrying over 70,000 tonnes of wheat from Canada arrived there, officials said. Balochistan Chief Minister Sardar Saleh Bhuttani welcomed the shipment and crew at dock and termed it an economical boost for Balochistan and Pakistan. Bhuttani said the Gwadar Port provided nearest route and more facilities than any other port in the region. He said that it would generate economical activities as labour would receive Pak Rupees 15 per bag for carrying and there were over 0.65 million bags in the first shipment. The Gwadar Port was established with the help of China at a cost of $250 million. Its second phase would be established very soon. The Port of Singapore was the highest bidder for making the port operational and the contract was awarded to it for 40 years with tax laxity.
