Sabic Innovative Plastics And Hyundai Honored With The International Forum (If) Product Design Award For Qarmaq Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle
The SABIC owned SABIC Innovative Plastics affiliate and Hyundai Motor Europe, co-developers of the QarmaQ, jointly won the Product Design Award for QarmaQ Advanced Technology Demonstration Vehicle (ATDV) award which is being presented the International Forum Product Design Awards for Advanced Studies. Hyundai QarmaQ vehicle has been showcased at the Hannover, Germany Exhibition Grounds on March 3. Othman Al-Humaidi SABIC General Manager, Corporate Communications wrote This award, which is being presented by the IF that has served for 54 years as an internationally recognized trademark for outstanding designs, attests to the effectiveness of SABIC Innovative Plastics' strategy of working side-by-side with customers to help them deliver business success. The award honors experimental drafts of products and studies that have not yet been implemented. Key criteria for selecting the QarmaQ ATDV included design quality, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, and safety. For example, the concept of the “Elastic Front” safety system featured on the QarmaQ can help reduce the risk of severe injuries in CUV pedestrian collisions. Design innovations included panoramic wrap-around glazing using SABIC Innovative Plastics' Lexan* polycarbonate resin. Through the use of thermoplastic materials, QarmaQ designers were given greater expressive freedom to create complex three-dimensional shapes that could not have been achieved with conventional production methods or materials. Thanks to the SABIC Innovative Plastics products which enable Safety, Design Freedom and developing the QarmaQ vehicle meeting the environmental goals, reducing weight, fuel consumption and greenhouse emissions.
