Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega announced Thursday that he is severing relations with Colombia because of his country's opposition to the Colombian raid on a rebel camp in Ecuador. Ortega publicly announced his decision after meeting with Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa, who is on a tour of the region to rally opposition to Colombia's attack, which killed the second-ranking commander of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group and 23 other Colombian guerrillas. “We are breaking off relations because of the political terrorism being carried out by the government of [Colombian President] Alvaro Uribe, not because of the Colombian people,” Ortega said in Managua.
