A senior envoy to U.S. President George W. Bush on Wednesday said Sudan had rejected his offer to send non-African troops to the Darfur region of the country. Following a meeting with United Nations head Ban Ki-Moon, the U.S. Special Envoy to Darfur/Sudan Rich Williamson told the press he had recently met with Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir. But, he said “nobody can be particularly proud of what we've done yet.” Williamson said he met with al-Bashir for an hour, followed by a four-hour meeting with the Sudanese foreign minister and senior leadership.
