An Indian man returned home Tuesday after spending 35 years in Pakistani prisons, most of them on death row, on a spying conviction, AP reported. Kashmir Singh, who is about 60 years old, was released Monday from a prison in the eastern city of Lahore after being granted clemency by President Pervez Musharraf. Singh spent the night in a luxury hotel before being driven 25 kilometers (15 miles) to Wagah, the border crossing between Pakistan and India. The white-bearded and bald Singh walked slowly to the border, accompanied by Pakistan's Minister for Human Rights Ansar Burney, who had helped secure his release. A tearful Singh hugged Burney for a long time, and turned around to wave at scores of journalists and onlookers before stepping across. «I have no regrets for anything that happened to me ... that life is over,» Singh said. Burney handed over Singh to Indian police officials who put their palms together in a gesture of thanks to the Pakistanis before leading him away.
