German cycling authorities said Thursday they would be seeking more information from 1988 Olympic bronze medallist Robert Lechner who has admitted doping during training for the Games in Seoul, according to dpa. "The incident goes back 20 years but still needs clearing up. We will be approaching him so that he can provide us with substantial information," German Cycling Association (BDR) president Rudolf Scharping said. Former track cyclist Lechner, 41, won a bronze medal for West Germany in the 1,000 metres time trial. He has admitted in a newspaper interview to taking banned anabolic steroids and cortisone, a steroid hormone. Lechner said he was provided with the substances under an exact plan drawn up by unnamed BRD officials. He stopped taking the drugs on August 8, 1988, to make sure no trace would be found by the time of the race on September 20. Gold went to the Soviet cyclist Alexander Kirichenko, with silver won by Australian Martin Vinnicombe.
