Minister of commerce and industry Dr Hashim Yamani has underscored the importance of the society of the consumer's protection, approved by the Cabinet on 12-1-1429, and said the society will support the efforts of the governmental organs concerned with the consumer's protection. In a press statement, Dr Yamani said the Riyadh-based society will work as an independent organ with branches in the various parts of the Kingdom. The society will be concerned with the affairs of the consumers, and will take care of their interests and preserve their rights and protect them from all forms of manipulation and misleading, he elaborated. The minister added that the society will also be concerned with the rationalization of consumption and providing the consumers with the required information and advice in addition to extending proposals pertaining to the systems of protection of the consumers. Dr Yamani said the society will conduct studies and researches and organize seminars and exhibitions pertaining to the protection of the consumers. He pointed out that the society's executive council will include nine members who are to be elected by the society general assembly for a period of three years.
