Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Atiyyah, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and accompanying delegation arrived in Sanaa today to take part in the 2nd Consultative meeting on the outcome of London Conference for Yemen Development Donors, scheduled for the Yemeni capital of Sanaa on February 4, 2008. In an arrival statement, Al-Atiyyah said he will take part in the meeting which attracts Yemen's development partners, including the World Bank and representatives of the GCC member countries. On the mechanisms of accelerating the accession of Yemen to the GCC, he said Yemen is the southern gate for the Arab Peninsula, a matter that should never be neglected. However, we ought not to delay nor over jump the phases that end up in Yemen's joining the GCC group according to frameworks that overcome the obstacles of the past and eventually leads to the projected goal. He reiterated the keenness of the GCC member states on supporting the development plans and programs of Yemen.
