Five civilians were killed when a taxi was hit by a roadside bomb in a dangerous part of southern Afghanistan, an official said Sunday, according to AP. The bomb exploded late Saturday in the Panjwayi district of Kandahar province, the site of heavy battles between NATO troops and Taliban fighters during the last 18 months. Five civilians were killed and three were wounded in the attack, said Shah Baran, the local government leader. The bomb was probably intended for Afghan or NATO soldiers, he said. «Usually the Taliban are planting mines for Afghan and NATO forces, but this time it exploded on civilians,» he said.
