Hundreds of prisoners were forced to spend several hours out in the cold, naked, in the prison yard after an attempted mutiny at a Mexican jail, television media reported late Wednesday, according to dpa. Footage taken from the air showed some 300 inmates lying face-down on the concrete floor, or kneeling and facing the wall of the Neza- Bordo prison near Mexico City, under the surveillance of hundreds of police officers as they awaited an inspection of their cells, prison authorities said. The mutiny began Wednesday afternoon when a group of inmates rebelled against prison authorities and tried to flee. Prisoners took hostage more than a score of guards. The situation was brought under control three hours later with the intervention of some 1,000 police officers. Security forces used tear gas and shots were fired, according to media reports. No one was killed but at least six guards were reported injured. In the evening, as inmates were naked in the yard, there was also tension outside the prison, where relatives of the prisoners gathered to demand information on their condition, broadcast media reported.
