German automotive giant Volkswagen said Sunday it posted worldwide sales of 6.189 million vehicles in 2007, a new record and that this year also promised to be a record-breaking year, according to dpa. VW group chairman Martin Winterkorn, speaking to the press at the annual the North American International Auto Show, said the figure was 7.9 per cent higher than in 2006. Winterkorn also said he was optimistic that 2008 would be another year of record VW sales. In a dig at his own country, he said Germany was the most uncertain market, with the ongoing debate about climate protection and reducing carbon dioxide emissions leading to uncertainty among car buyers.
