The spokesman for French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday confirmed a media report that the president had been secretly hospitalized to treat a throat abscess three days after his divorce was made public, according to dpa. "The president spent part of the evening of October 21 at Val-de- Grace (military hospital) to undergo a minor throat procedure," David Martinon said. Asked about the fact that no information was released regarding Sarkozy's hospitalization, Martinon said, "It doesn't make sense if we have to put out information about every little scratch." During his presidential campaign, Sarkozy had promised to make a break with the secrecy of past French presidents about their state of health. He said he would issue a medical statement about his health every month and even "make a star of my doctor." But since taking office, Sarkozy has issued only one medical bulletin about his state of health, France-Info radio said.
