He also worked to deepening relations among the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the Arab and Muslim countries. He extended generous support to the Arabs and Muslims and called for realizing a just peace. King Abdullah bin Abdul-aziz also called for fighting terrorism, and during his visit to the Vatican, he had underlined the importance of dialogue among religions and civilizations so as to enhance the pillars of tolerance and security among the world nations. He urged the Ulema (Islamic scholars) to prepare a plan for the development of the Muslim nation. The prize's committee for the service to Islam includes Prince Khalid al-Faisal, the Governor of Makkah region; Dr Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, the Sheikh of the Cairo-based al-Azhar; Dr Ekmel-eddin Ihsan Oglu, the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), and Dr Abdullah Al-Turki, the MWL's Secretary General; Dr Mohammed Al-Habib bin Khoja, the Secretary General of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council, and Dr Abdullah Al-Otheimin, the Secretary General of King Faisal International Prize.
