Several major British airports are to lift their cabin baggage restrictions, allowing many passengers to take two items of hand luggage on board, newspapers reported Saturday, according to dpa. From Monday, passengers at Heathrow, Stansted, Manchester and 19 other airports will be allowed to take two pieces of hand luggage into the cabin, according to the Guardian. However, for the time being restrictions are to remain in place at Gatwick, Luton and another 50 airports. Individual airlines, such as easyJet, are also sticking to their one-bag policy. "The only way to maintain a simple and standard policy is to maintain our one-bag policy," easyJet's chief executive, Andrew Harrison, was quoted as saying by the Guardian. However, differing policies at different airports and between airlines are likely to cause confusion, experts say. "It adds an extra element of confusion if people are flying from different airports with different baggage rules," industry consultant John Strickland said. Guidelines on hand luggage were tightened in August 2006 following an alleged plot to blow up transatlantic flights. The other airports lifting their baggage restrictions are Aberdeen, Birmingham, London City, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Prestwick, Newcastle, Southampton, Inverness, Islay, Kirkwall, Plymouth, Southend, Cambridge, Stornaway, Sumburgh, Benbecula and Wick.
