Former energy and industry minister Igor Chudinov was named Kyrgyzstan's prime minister on Monday. Chudinov was nominated by the central commission of the Ak Jol party of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, which dominates the parliament. The party's parliament members then approved the nomination and Bakiyev signed a decree naming him premier. After this month's national elections, 71 of the 90 seats are held by Ak Jol members and the remainder by parties friendly to Bakiyev. Also Monday, Ak Jol member Adakhan Madumarov, a former state secretary, was elected parliament speaker.
