Kurdish security officials said there were no fatalities in attacks by the Turkish air force on suspected positions of the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) on Saturday, the pan-Arab al-Jazeera news broadcaster reported, according to dpa. The Turkish military earlier confirmed the renewed aerial attacks, saying hundreds of PKK fighters might have been killed. However, no more details were on the number of those hurt or killed were available. The Turkish military was planning to publish pictures of the attack next week, it was said. The air force attacked four times between 2:25 pm (1225 GMT) and 5:10 pm (1510 GMT), according to the military. Turkey had warned of further attacks in the area, al-Jazeera said. The conflict between the PKK and the Turkish military escalated after the PKK had repeatedly killed soldiers on the Turkish side of the Turkey-Iraq border. Turkey's government and parliament gave the go-ahead for the cross-border attacks, which the United States has supported by providing intelligence.
