Serbian presidential elections will be held on January 20 next, Parliamentary Speaker Oliver Dulic announced on Wednesday, according to DPA. The pre-term presidential elections were announced because of the adoption of a new constitution last year. Current President Boris Tadic's term officially expires on July 11, 2009. Incumbent Tadic is expected to run for re-election with the ultra-nationalist Serbian Radical Party deputy leader Tomislav Nikolic seen as his strongest opponent. Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica's Democratic Party of Serbia was adamant on insisting that the presidential elections wait until resolution of the status of Kosovo.
