UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, speaking on World AIDS Day Saturday, called for an end to the stigmatisation of those suffering from the disease, according to dpa. In a statement released in New York Ban expressed his admiration for those who live openly with the disease. "To overcome the stigma remains our greatest challenge. It is still the biggest hurdle to public action against AIDS," Ban said. The UN Secretary General appealed for governments to do more: "We have the means to protect young people from infection. We have the means to treat the infection." According to the UN's anti-AIDS programme, 33.2 million worldwide suffer from the HIV virus.
