US President George W Bush met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday, one day after brokering the relaunch of negotations to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to dpa. Bush planned to later host Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and then bring both leaders together for a final meeting to wrap up days of intensive negotiations and inaugurate the first peace talks in seven years. Olmert and Abbas agreed during a Middle East conference in Annapolis, Maryland outside Washington to quickly resume negotiations with the goal of reaching a settlement by the end of next year.
