German Chancellor Angela Merkel is scheduled to meet Italian President Giorgio Napolitano in Berlin next Tuesday, a government spokesman said Friday, according to dpa. Napolitano, who has been president since May 2006, is visiting Berlin at the invitation of his German counterpart Horst Koehler. During his stay, the Italian head of state will also deliver a speech about Europe at the capital's prestigious Humboldt University. Earlier this week, Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi conferred with Merkel at the government guesthouse in Meseberg, 70 kilometres south-west of the German capital.
