The General Authority of Civil Aviation has launched the new project of the development of King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah during a press conference held recently here. President of the Authority Eng. Abdullah Rahaimi delivered a speech in which he said that at the end of the first phase, the improved airport will accommodate more than 30 million travelers; at the end of second phase more than 50 million travelers and at the end of the third phase more than 80 million travelers. Rahaimi added that there will be a commercial area exceeding 6.5 kilometers as well as an area for light industries and areas for plane maintenance. Then, a working paper and a detailed presentation on the project were delivered. The project is expected to be implemented during the next 30 years with estimated investments of more than SR 10 billion. The first phase will be implemented over five years and the project's three phases are expected to end in 2035.
