Turkish officials are reportedly not satisfied with plans put forward by a high-level Iraqi delegation to deal with Kurdish rebels based in northern Iraq, the private NTV television station reported on Friday, according to dpa. The Iraqi delegation, headed by Defence Minister Abdul-Qader al- Obeidi and including representatives from the two main Iraqi Kurdish parties, was engaged in talks all day Friday in an attempt to dissuade Turkey from ordering a large-scale cross-border operation to hit Kurdish rebels holed up in northern Iraq. NTV quoted Turkish sources that the Iraqi plan was "insufficient" and that there was little hope that a satisfactory deal could be reached by tomorrow when the delegation is scheduled to leave after talks between Al-Obeidi and his Turkish counterpart Vecdi Gonul. Turkish media have described the talks as a "last chance" for Iraq to show that it is willing to crack down on the activities of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).
